HELP!! Why would my doctor be sending me to a diabetic center when I am 37 weeks pregnant for diabetes?
Could someone please explain why this late in the game I/We should be worried about gestational diabetes? I flunked the 1hr glucose test by 4 points. I tried twice the fasting/ 3 hr test and could not make it through... It made me so ill. I have had morning sickness this entire pregnancy, which is my second after two miscarriages. I did not have gestational diabetes with my first son... but he was a large baby. 9lbs! Now pregnant with my second son, my ultrasound last week showed baby Riley at a bit under 6lbs. Which is not a big baby... He hs been active, heart rate fine... They tell me everything is perfect yet are hounding me on this diabetic center. I think it is crazy.... By the time I go to my appointment and get started monitoring my levels, baby will be here...
Has this happened to anyone else? Why would he be so concerned this far in the game?
They need to know how seriuos the problem is because of the baby...
After the birth, his blood sugars may fall very rapidly and he may end up needing NICU care to keep him stable. Low blood sugars in babies lead to difficulties maintaining body temperature and breathing. It's very important that you try and comply.
For Riley's sake.
It's like he's been used to your higher than normal blood glucose, so when he's born, your supply will shut off (obviously) and he "crashes". Sudden withdrawal, if you like.
