What can i do to take down my high blood pressure?
Its not very high but the doctor wants it down abit before he,ll give me my mini pill.
There are a few simple measures which you can take to bring it down. As with so many ailments, diet and execise are the key, however, stress it an important factor of BP and needs to be addressed also. Try this for 8 weeks which apart from many other benefits should bring your BP down.
Firslty. are you overweight? The less mass that the heart has to pump blood through, the more likely a lower pressure. If so, aim to lose 5 kilos and see what a difference it can make.
Second: Don't smoke
Diet: Reduce alcohol intake (1 glass of red with food each day is ok). Reduce salt intake. Not just from the table and cooking but from processed tinned foods. Reduce refined sugar intake.
Eat foods high in potassium (bananas. spinach, silverbeet, mushrooms, broccoli, tomatoes etc).
Eat foods high in magensium (spinach, beans, nuts and seeds) Good for the heart and helps us cope with STRESS.
Aviod, fried foods especially chips, burgers and Kentuckys. Eat boiled or steamed fish. Cans of tuna and sardines are good (in springwater). Reduce saturated fats to 5% of your diet and increase monunsaturated fats(advocados, almonds and olive oil). All good in Vit E also.
As always eat green leafy vegetable and some friut each day. Grapes for BP (red)
Reduce caffiene. Two coffees less than one hour before your
BP test can you an upward reading of 5 points. In general, go for green tea and don't drink sodas, colas etc..even with reduced sugar.
Drink one or two cups daily of organic cocoa (increases Nitric oxide production which relaxes the blood vessels) Try making it with Soya. If not low fat milk is ok.
Supplements: 2 x1000 Mgrams of Fish oil (omega3 ) each day (keeps the arteries flexible) 2 x1000 Mgrams garlic (healthily thins the blood) and 2 x 1000 Mgams vitamin c (does so many good things but for this...helps the body absorb and distribute the good elements in the foods above)
Exercise: 3 x 30 minutes per week. Get your heart moving, go aerobic (power walking, swimming, running: skipping is brilliant). A good sex session once daily does wonders for the longer term measurement.
That's it........6 weeks. Not only will this reduce your BP but will serve your body well in many other ways.
