Knee cap Sublaxation?

I recently had a knee cap sublaxation and the knee cap has drifted down a bit and I have unstability in my knee. I have currently put a knee brace/stabilizer and resting. i don't have swelling, but slight soreness in around the knee cap. Does any one know what can i do to fix this and how long does it take for it to heal completely to continue normal activities?

It's spelled subluxation. That is where the tracking nearly brings your patella(kneecap) to dislocation. You need to focus on the vastus medialis oblique (or VMO) muscle) and strengthening it. It's located at the bottom of your quadriceps, and just above your kneecap. It can atrophy very easily due to it's tiny size and being neglected. The VMO muscle also takes faithful rehab to improve, it will not be overnight.

Best strengthening exercise for these are leg lifts with your toes pointing outward, but be careful if you have too much instability or pain. Gradually work up the weight, but safely. Also need to stick to other exercises faithfully or you're wasting time.

I feel for you, and wish you the best. I've actually dislocated my left knee 3 times and broke the patella once. I've had corrective surgery after the third knee dislocation to fix the tracking (like the tracking you're talking about, just much more severe!). The surgery consisted of cutting a muscle on the outside of the knee- called a lateral release. Also, if your quadriceps are existent or not too spongy, they could give you a quad-transfer in which case they tie your quad to your knee joint to force more stability. Finally they will clean up all the tears and jagged spots likely left from your bad tracking. And without question, you will then be prescribed a heap of physical therapy.

!!!Your most important thing to know is that you need to strengthen the muscles surrounding the knee joint- there is positively no way to fix this without physical therapy. And do not ignore the tracking problem, it is causing damage to your cartilage, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and patella.!!!
