What is the best way to introduce my gerbils safely?
I have one male gerbil(i think he is a slate)and one female gerbil that i would like to put together so that they can breed, but there is a small problem. I put them in the tub together and at first they just sniffed each other but then they started fighting. They are brother and sister(the slate was actually fostered by the female's mother but i just call them brother and sister). I did separate them when i moved them to different cages but i thought that they remembered each other(thankfully i took safety precautions before i put them in the tub). I am trying to think of a safe way to introduce them and i was wondering what the best introduction method is. I do not want to have to use a split cage method but i will do so if necessary. Any help is appreciated.
P.S.- Please DO NOT answer if you are going to criticize me for breeding the gerbils. I know what i am doing and have taken several safety precautions to stop them from breeding more than once.
The split cage method/smaller cage inside a larger one is the only way to keep them seperate and still get used to each other... They will always fight until they are familiar with each other... that could take a week or more of keeping them together, yet seperated before they are more comfortable.
Still, there are others that will never go well together... even ones that have been together before. They are just like people, some can just be jerks
