Stop knee from cracking?

I sprained my knee this summer (torn cartilage) and my doctor told me to workout my knee (exercises like squats and stuff) so that the muscles will get back to normal strength. ive been doing jus that for about 2 months and my leg is almost the same size as my other leg but my knee still cracks. my doctor says that the cracking SHOULD go away when the stabilizer muscles grow stronger but the cracking is still the same. is there anythin else i can do or am i jus screwed for life?
it does still hurt when it cracks so its hard to do leg extensions but squats im doin jus fine

OK, well you still have a torn cartilage in your knee. The knee cartilage don't heal, so resting doesn't help. Its great you have been able to build up your quads, it will help loads after arthroscope.... you will need key-hole surgery to trim away the damaged cartilage otherwise it will keep clicking... but once cleaned up will be good as new.
