My dog has a tender lower abdomen and backs up to have a bm - any ideas?
If this has been going on for several days, I would go to the vet and see what they think.
If bm is coming out solid than he probably does not have an obstruction. If it is watery or there is any vomiting then he could have a partial obstruction. If the stool looks dry and hard, it might be simple constipation that can be relieved by giving a heaping teaspoon to a heaping tablespoon three times a day (depending on his size) of plain canned pumpkin. Dogs like the taste and eat it readily. Pumpkin is a natural source of fiber and works for both diarrhea and constipation.
